QR Code Types Explained

Text & URL

The most common QR code types. Simply paste your text or URL and generate. Perfect for websites, social media links, and general information sharing.

WiFi QR Code

Create QR codes that automatically connect devices to your WiFi network. Users just scan the code and they're connected - no need to manually enter passwords. Supports WPA, WPA2, WEP, and open networks.

vCard QR Code

Generate digital business cards that users can scan to instantly save your contact information to their phone. Includes name, phone, email, organization, website, and address fields.

Email QR Code

Create QR codes that open the user's email app with pre-filled recipient, subject, and body text. Perfect for contact forms and support emails.

SMS QR Code

Generate QR codes that open the messaging app with a pre-filled phone number and message. Great for customer support and quick contact.

Phone QR Code

Create QR codes that automatically dial a phone number when scanned. Ideal for business cards and call-to-action marketing.

How to Use the QR Code Generator

  1. Select QR Type: Choose from Text, URL, Email, Phone, SMS, WiFi, vCard, Scanner, or History

Gradient QR Codes

Our gradient feature allows you to create stunning QR codes with color transitions. Choose between:

  • Linear Gradient: Colors transition in a straight line. Adjust the angle from 0° to 360° for different directions
  • Radial Gradient: Colors transition from the center outward in a circular pattern

Select your start and end colors, and the tool will automatically apply the gradient to all QR code modules while maintaining scannability.

Error Correction Levels

Error correction determines how much of the QR code can be damaged or obscured while still being scannable:

  • Low (L - 7%): Smallest QR code size, but least error tolerance. Use for simple QR codes without logos
  • Medium (M - 15%): Balanced option for most use cases
  • Quartile (Q - 25%): Higher error tolerance, slightly larger QR code
  • High (H - 30%): Maximum error tolerance. Required when adding a logo to the center. Creates larger QR codes but ensures scannability even with 30% damage

QR Code Scanner

Our built-in scanner uses your device's camera to read QR codes in real-time. Simply select "Scanner" from the QR type menu and point your camera at any QR code. The scanner will:

  • Detect and decode QR codes automatically
  • Display the decoded content instantly
  • Allow you to copy the result with one click
  • Support all standard QR code formats

Perfect for testing your generated QR codes or scanning codes from other sources.

History Feature

The tool automatically saves your last 20 QR codes with their settings. Access them anytime by selecting "History" from the QR type menu. Features include:

  • Visual thumbnails of each QR code
  • Timestamp showing when each was created
  • One-click to reload any previous QR code with all its settings
  • Clear all history option
  • Stored locally in your browser (never sent to servers)

Export Formats

  • PNG: Lossless compression, best for digital use and transparency support
  • JPEG: Smaller file size, best for photos and complex images (no transparency)
  • WEBP: Modern format with superior compression and quality
  • SVG: Vector format that scales infinitely without quality loss, perfect for print

Best Practices

  • Test Before Publishing: Always scan your QR code with multiple devices before printing or sharing
  • Use High Error Correction for Logos: When adding a logo, use High (H) error correction to ensure scannability
  • Maintain Contrast: Ensure good contrast between foreground and background colors
  • Avoid Complex Gradients: While gradients look great, very complex gradients may reduce scannability
  • Consider Print Size: For print materials, use higher resolution (800-1000px) and High error correction
  • Test in Different Lighting: QR codes should be scannable in various lighting conditions

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the QR codes scannable with gradients?

Yes! Our gradient algorithm is designed to maintain QR code scannability while adding visual appeal. However, very low contrast gradients may reduce scanning reliability. Always test your QR code after applying gradients.

Can I use the QR codes commercially?

Absolutely! All QR codes generated with our tool are free to use for personal, educational, and commercial purposes without any restrictions or attribution required.

Is my data safe?

Yes! All QR code generation happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your data is never sent to any server. The history feature stores data in your browser's localStorage, which you can clear at any time.

Why does my QR code with a logo not scan?

When adding a logo, make sure you're using High (H) error correction (30%). This allows up to 30% of the QR code to be obscured while remaining scannable. Also ensure your logo isn't too large - keep it under 20% of the QR code size.

What's the maximum data capacity?

QR codes can store up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters, 7,089 numeric characters, or 2,953 bytes of binary data. However, larger data creates denser QR codes that are harder to scan. For best results, keep data under 500 characters.

Can I print the QR codes?

Yes! For best print results, use High resolution (800-1000px), High error correction, and export as SVG or PNG. Ensure the printed QR code is at least 2cm x 2cm for reliable scanning.

Does the scanner work offline?

Yes! The QR scanner works completely offline using your device's camera. No internet connection is required.

Is this tool free to use?

Yes! The Qurkx QR Code Generator is 100% free with no registration, no limits, and no watermarks. Use it as many times as you want for any purpose.
